Chapter Report In our community, breastfeeding promotion public service announcements recorded by a Family Practice physician and a lactation consultant were aired regularly during World Breastfeeding Week on KMBN (89.7) radio and a wonderful article appeared in the Las Cruces Bulletin. Also, there were WBW balloon bouquets and breastfeeding literature in the Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby units, as well as Aprendamos Early Intervention Center, Women's Medical Associates, MMC Family Medicine Center, First Step Women's Health, and First Step Pediatrics. Our focus this year was to educate the public about the concerns with the formula advertising bags that are given to new moms at the hospitals. This was accomplished by giving bookmarks with educational information to pregnant women in a variety of settings, and also meeting with administrators at both hospitals. We have also been promoting awareness of the new legislation which safeguards a nursing mother's right to pump in her place of work. There have been articles featured in the local newspaper, and we have distributed hundreds of Privacy Please doorhangers with information and encouragement for working moms. An article about the law appeared in the Las Cruces Sun-News: http://www.lcsun-news.com/fastsearchresults/ci_6456056?IADID=Search-www.lcsun-news.com-www.lcsun-news.com |
