Theme: "In conjunction with the Olympics in August, WBW 2008 calls for greater support for mothers in achieving the gold standard of infant feeding: breastfeeding exclusively for six months, and providing appropriate complementary foods with continued breastfeeding for up to two years or beyond." The Valencia County Breastfeeding Task Force and Belen & Los Lunas WIC Programs are hosting the annual Valencia WBW Community Celebration, August 1st from 4-6 pm at Anna Becker Park, Reinken Avenue, Belen. The celebration is open to the public and held during the Rio Abajo Grower's Market. We'll have breastfeeding and other information booths, including a WIC / Peer Counselor booth, plus food & refreshments, music, door prizes for pregnant & breastfeeding moms, mini spa treatments from event sponsor, the Garden Gate Day Spa. WIC Clinics will also provide refrigerator bottle bags, milk storage magnets, and water bottles to pregnant & breastfeeding clients during the whole month of August, and will promote breastfeeding with WBW-themed bulletin boards and special breastfeeding Nutrition Education sessions. We are also participating in WABA's 2008 Virtual Torch Run, in honor of this year's WBW theme "Mothers Support - Going for the Gold!" Tune in to KARS Radio, 860 AM for event updates!
